I don't know how I missed it, but 2 months ago I found a new favorite - New York Magazine. I'd heard of it before, but thinking it would be as stuffy (and typically culturally bias) as it's counterpart The New York Times I never took the time to read it. However I digress. It's Brilliant -- with a capital "B".

We are looking for culture masters and forecasters in the London, Toronto, New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Chicago, Tokyo and San Francisco areas.
Description:
Contributors will be required to submit one 200-250 word article per month. Articles should profile trendsetting people, places and things. You will be responsible for conducting interviews, research and other tasks involved in creating and submitting complete compositions.
Qualifications:
Excellent writing skills
Solid knowledge of the music, lifestyle & fashion of the VERGE culture
Must be self-motivated and respect all deadlines
